Will there be a US/International version?

So how is this camera as a action camera? Because it seems better then the normal yi but dont know bout battery details etc but atleast it has a screen.

Having owned both, the Yi Dashcam is not a usable Action camera, they are designed for their purpose and they do that very well!

Just wondering if Xiaomi have confirmed if they will be releasing a US/International version of this dash cam?

I think it will have International version of xiaomi dash cam

As we know, Xiaomi Yi Action Camera Official U.S./EU Edition 2K Super HD will available in next month.

So, xiaomi dash cam Official U.S./EU Edition will be the next one.

Xiaomi Yi Action Camera Official U.S./EU Edition 2K Super HD

any updates about YI car dvr international?
any one got real YI dashcam with English f/w in hands?

Geekbuying looks like they're selling the international version with screenshots of English menus inside the dash cam screen but it is definitely fake because no evidence of existence outside of geekbuying

Rumor was the international version release in mid-April, and they're finally making original dash cam available today which is good. But at $130 USD almost double other the re-sellers! I understand it's a business thing but to justify such a cost difference requires a secret ingredient whether it's outstanding service or thousand island dressing disguised as secret sauce

Seems like it might be official for international version.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/B01C89GCHUAmazon has it listed and sold from Yi Technology, which I believe Yi Technology is the distributor for US Market for Xiaoyi related products.

Edit: official site listing with details, features, specs, etc.

In the end people will understand that they bought or will buy some Yi camera and not a Xiaomi camera. Still all chinese sellers are doing big advertising and promotion to a XiaoMi product which is not made by XiaoMi but by a company named Yi Technology which have a website owned by somebody called XiaoYi.

This XiaoMi thing I consider the biggest hoax of 2015 regarding cameras.

enjoy,
Mtz

any reason we are under "Xiaomi" talking about YI? :)
should it be under YI Technology?

The hoax must continue until Yi Technology can grow big enough to stand alone without being dependent on BIG daddy Xiaomi's name.

Maybe they don't want to grow ever and maybe these will be their only two products. Because their two products have only the brand name
Yi
Not Yi 1 or Yi2 or Yi 3. Searching on internet is stupid because now are two cameras, one is the action cam (with no display when display is very important) and the other is the dashcam (with display which is not important compared to action cam because it have also the Wi-Fi).

Maybe because will be again a problem because of searching. When I was uploading videos from Yi cameras I didn't know what name to use for titles because people are searching for XiaoMi, not for Yi or XiaoYi. Sometimes I used XiaoMi but added tag with XiaoYi.

But we can see that official page it not contains even the XiaoYi as brand name, just as website owner. I think XiaoMi got so mad and put a pressure on them to remove also the XiaoYi name.

Finally, the Yi idea was great just for making money. They used something (Yi) very close to Mi from XiaoMi, then spread the hoax that their Yi camera is a XiaoMi thing. Then greedy chinese online stores saw this hoax as a good business because of low price and advertised a lot.

enjoy,
Mtz

PS: my idea is just a guess, I hope I am right.

The branding is XiaoYi... Just in America it's called "Yi" or "Yi Technology".

As far as I know, Xiaomi or "Mi" still backs XiaoYi's product (action cam, home/smart cam, not sure about dash cam though) as it is listed in their product list in China within their website.

I think they are just shortening their name. XiaoMi shortened their name to Mi for their products. XiaoYi shortened their names to Yi. But in reality, the Chinese name/characters all have the "Xiao" in front when naming the products.

Just got an official response from their fb page and it seems that it won't be an english f/w upgrade for the China version.

No English firmware compatibility so they can make more money.

If the h/w is 100% identical i see no reason why the English f/w won't work. Probably the only reason could be some s/w checks the camera makes before flashing.

The only hope would be to have a brave soul flash the English version onto the Chinese version to test compatibility but I'm afraid I am not brave enough to risk bricking le tachograph :(

I believe Xiaomi is behind all these cameras as runtohell121 mentioned. If you look at the Chinese version of the Xiaomi site (mi.com) you find:

The home camera is called Xiaoyi:
http://www.mi.com/xiaoyi/

The action camera is called Yi Camera:
http://www.mi.com/yicamera/

but the dash cam has not been listed yet. However they do list the dash cam app on the mi site:
http://app.mi.com/detail/178420

Note that none of the cameras are mentioned on the English site:
http://www.mi.com/en/

Perhaps Xiaomi outsourced the production of cameras but they don't appear to be hoaxes given all 3 are mentioned to some degree on the main Xiaomi site.
