Mobius mounting solutions

I opted for a modified helmet mount for my install. I wanted something discrete that would fit in behind the rearview mirror, and get as close to the windscreen as possible.

I'm sure it's been posted many times before, but this is the helmet sticker mount vs the ball-joint sticker mount:

And this is what you get when you reverse the helmet sticker mount - camera is much further forward:

But the thumb screw on the helmet mount was limiting the angle that I could tilt the camera up, so I swapped it for one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291158637189

Looks great, where did you get the helmet mount from?

One of the best mounting solutions for Mobius ! Please put a link with the helment mount source ! Than you

JakeBlade, just yesterday i bought the helmet holder and i thought the same idea! except the thumb screw.
we think alike.
if you didn't shared this, i would! (a month later, when i receive it)
Those who wanted the link, here:

what i love about it, is that you can release the main part of the helmet holder, this is not permanent.

It is a really good mount for the money, and the quick release is very low profile:

yeah, great bracket.

do you have a replacement for the big tightening screw also?

I probably already have one somewhere in the box of old nuts and bolts.

Ok, so the replacement needs to be a M4 size screw or bolt, with a thread length of 35mm, then a matching M4 size nut or cap.

But, the end if the bolt needs a square box element at the head, so that it locks into the mount to prevent it from spinning.

The 35mm is slightly oversize, but a step-down in size is the 30mm, which is too short. Could always trim the screw down to size if it annoys you.

I'm on the hunt for them in black.

I think it might just be easier however to use the existing bolt which is approx 40mm, trim it, and then use a black M4 nut tightened with a spanner. Or, could use any M4 nut with one if these caps over it http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=190768005716

The head of the existing bolt could then be painted black, or covered with a black sticker.

More simple is to use some radar detector windshield mount, something like this:

I really like this "Escort windshield mount" idea. It is very simple and perfect for my needs. How is it like with vibrations? Would you recommend something like industrial strength velcro to stick on the windshield and also to the Mobius?

I was thinking of running the power cable from the Mobius, up touching the windshield, and then into the headliner and down around to the passenger (or the driver side) down the A pillar (passenger/driver side) and then down into the floor and into the 12v cigarette lighter which will have a USB hub plugged into it. Would this idea work? I don't want to necessarily hardwire anything into the car's fusebox as the car is still under warranty.

The plan is to keep the Mobius plugged in permanently (and velcro would make it easy to remove if necessary).

I like the DR32 type mount, however, it lacks the articulation I wanted. Fine for setting the 'angle of dangle', but basically adjustable in only one plane ... if that's the correct terminology.
One thing I won't do is attach it to the windscreen ... I have an aversion to things stuck to the windscreen.

How restricted is the articulation? I also like this mount because it's the thinnest "real" mount I have seen, but I also want a stealth install and I don't know if my car's windshield angle will be sufficient for an install with this mount.

Also, how come you don't like things stuck to the windshield? Won't it just peel off when necessary (or use goo-gone when needed)?

The last mount ( left one ) DR32, 808, I think is most practical.
I tried Mobius other two on some cars with more vertical wind-shield and could not adjust angle write, because ball-joint does not give that much space.
For busses, trucks, etc. , with almost vertical ( closer to 90 degree ) wind-shield angle, DR32 bracket would fit best.

Looks like you touched on my query here. The DR32 is not worth it on a traditional car that has a slanted windshield? I have the 2014 Ford Focus, but if you think that the DR32 is only good for vertical windshields, then I will probably use the winshield mount that Mtz recommended (radar detector style mount).

Thanks for all your posts here, by the way. So helpful and informative!

Due to the reflection of the A pillar trim on the video whilst using the Wide Angle setting, I've opted for the Narrow setting for now. It was an overcaste day but I do think the lighting settings need fettling a bit, but currently I'm at the positioning /installation stage. But would be interested to hear from some UK based members, their lighting settings to point me in the right direction. I say UK based because it can be bleeding dismal during the day in our neck of the woods.

I just got the Focus SE and I had no idea that I'd be seeing so much of the pillar's reflections. I was going to get the B Lens Mobius as well.

Did you not want/like a windshield mount style for the Mobius because of that?

Hi did you have any luck locating a replacement screw with the ebay link you posted?

My helmet mount arrived today. I had to add some foam tape to the quick release mechanism to acts as a packer and prevent it vibrating/clicking whilst driving.

Other than that, its a great low profile mount.

My rear mount consists of neobydium magnets expoxy resined to the Mobius mount, stuck to the metal above my rear window.

Hi there, sorry for the late reply .....been in North Wales for the past week on a tour of Edward 1st Castles.... Harlech, Conwy, Beaumaris and Caernarfon......Wife was totaly castled up by Beaumaris and passed on Caernarfon o_O

Plus the cottage we were staying in did not have internet, just horses and hens.

The reason I chose to make my own mounts was because they suited me needs better, just personal really. And in actual fact I had fashioned the mounts before my second Mobius, the B lense variant arrived from China. Only then did I realise there would be A pillar reflection issues.

I noticed in a Techmoan video, the one with the white van pulling out of a side road, that was showing A pillar reflections.

When you put the magnetic plate inside, did you remove the protective sticker to adhere it? Or, did you do nothing and simply placed it inside? I'm trying to figure out how you can stick it inside. You can't, right? The side with the sticky glue would stick to the electrical components, wouldn't it? Or, does the magnet still work on the adhesive side? Which means you can stick it to the cover. Hope you understand what I'm trying to ask. LOL!

Lastly, couldn't you stick it on the outside of the Mobius?

Using original bolt cut down to size, a M4 nut, and the domed M4 nut cover from my previous post.

This stuff also turned up today, to play around with a sort-of lens hood:
