70mai 4K Omni (unboxing & first impressions) (Sony Starvis 2 IMX678/IMX662, Wi-Fi 6/GPS, Novatek NT98530, 4K60 front + 1080p rear, HDR both channels)

Are there any time limits on Cloud usage of Live View?

I like how this has a low quality video file and a high quality, to make 4G transfer easier. My VanTrue E360 seems to chew up data and take an age to transfer as it only has high quality videos (correct me if I'm wrong).

Sorry what do you mean on time limits, do you mean you're only allowed to view so many files over 30 days, is that what you mean

Otherwise it's just the 30 second clips, 15 maximum of which are able to be stored to the cloud. Or 520MB of storage fills. Whichever comes first.

Shame about Vantrue, you can always grab the high resolution files later (if your car isn't stolen haha), so I'm a fan of the smaller file size afforded by the 70mai

@Augustus When I tried the Omni last year there was some kind of 15 minute (I don't remember exactly) a month time limit to use Live View. It was quite restrictive. I mean viewing a live stream, not downloading files.

Oh I see, let me look into this

SO far i have tested,

PNY PRO Elite - grey black - OK
Kingston Canvas Go plus - black blue - OK
Sandisk extreme plus. gold red - OK
Samsung EVO Plus U3 - white - NOT OK (asking to reformat every half an hour or so)
Samsung PRO Plus U3 - blue - OK
PNY XLR8. white red - OK
Lexar professiona. grey - Black - OK
Thank you - I tried the Sandisk Ultra microsSDXC UHS-1 128GB and it worked for me. So you can add that to your list!

Just a side note to anyone out there who may use third-party USB-C cables to provide power to dashcams.

I've tried a few in the past with varying levels of success, whether it's locked down to proprietary power standards or not.

Have just tried a shorter UGREEN USB-C to USB-C (rated for 100W PD data and charge) cable with the Omni and can confirm it does not work. The dashcam thinks it's in parking mode the entire time.

Heat Testing: 70mai 4K Omni + 70mai UP04 4G Hardwire Kit

The 70mai 4K Omni on show here is recording at its highest native resolution of 4K, 60 frames per second. Please keep in mind that this is a tough test as this dashcam is exposed to operating conditions that stresses it to its limits. Firmware version: 1.1.88ww. Tested with it's respective stock power supply.

In all instances, the ambient car cabin temperatures (with air-conditioning set to lowest setting without car driver/passengers feeling hot) is 32.5 degrees Celsius. 70mai 4K Omni installed to left of rear-view mirror

31st March 2025:

Scenario: parked in stationary car mid-afternoon for approximately 30 minutes directly facing sun
Exhibited behaviour: 70mai 4K Omni did not shut-down, display was dimmed as per screensaver time-out

Outside stated weather bureau temperature: 32.9 degrees Celsius
Dashboard recorded temperature: 47.5 degrees Celsius

70mai Omni 4K (top of camera above LCD on ventilation grilles pull-down): 66.2 degrees Celsius
70mai Omni 4K (LCD screen itself): 57.7 degrees Celsius
70mai Omni 4K (front of camera on ventilation grilles): 83.8 degrees Celsius
70mai Omni 4K (directly at microSD slot location under flap): 69.3 degrees Celsius

UP04 (directly at nano-SIM card slot location): 60.4 degrees Celsius
UP04 (underside of unit at 70mai logo location): 61.8 degrees Celsius

Just a quick post to show the capabilities of the 4K Omni at night in its parking mode, with what 70mai calls Lumi Vision.

First photo is recording whilst in normal driving mode with the vehicle engine running, the second photo whilst parking (sentinel) mode is enabled.

Not a bad result to bring in much more light.

I wanted to buy this dah cam and came very close, a few insiders told me they have had issues with the production models they got from CES this year and that in dash cams you get what you pay for, so that kind of pushed me away.
Instead I went Viofo 329.
But I really think this omni has potential to be as good or even better depending on how they execute things.
Ill be watching it, at some point I might pick one up to compare myself.
If the camera doesn't shake and move while driving and will be a decent parking mode option, I would be interested.
Thanks for reviewing, the more content about this thi9ng the better.

No worries glad you're finding all the info helpful. I haven't experienced any of the issues that others have been experiencing, CES was January and the product has only been out to the public for a month or so. So if there were any production issues I would presume that 70mai would be on top of it and working to rectify these issues in subsequent production batches.

I am finding the 4K Omni quite an enjoyable experience thus far. They definitely hold a lot of promise with this product, and it seems to be ticking all the boxes.

I agree that it has loads of potential and at a good price point, like I said I was about to order one and was scared off.
I like the idea of redundancy and having support for an ssd and a sd car seemed important to me.
Personally, I found I don't love any of these cams.
I wish thinkwares U3000 radar and buffered parking mode was available with viofio's ssd support and 678/675 chips, and Wolfboxes G900 pro form factor would make a great cam.
I truly love the rear view mirror form factor, add in the best of thinkware and Viofo features and you would have something.
Omni has this cool idea of rotating the camera, I like that a lot for parking mode if they used a similar buffered parking mode that had face tracking ability it would be pretty cool.
It is funny, my wife was rooting for 70MAI as she liked the idea of spending less money but in the end I told her, I am only doing this because of what happened to my car and it is important to me to get what I think will serve my needs best, so.... for now anyway, viofo is it., although, from what I am seeing the image quality is very comparable.

Just a quick note about the rear camera unit RC14, of the 4K Omni. This has a Sony Starvis 2 IMX662 sensor, and is indeed quite a tiny and light-in-hand unit.

I did not notice until now that the unit has ventilation grilles, which aids in heat dissipation. Along with the reflective metallic side, this is a nice touch.

The updates come thick and fast for the new 70mai 4K Omni. This is quite a big update and brings some new features.

The new firmware update takes the unit from version 1.1.88ww to 1.2.96ww.

Changelog:
- Added Collision Detection with Surround Scan functionality
- Optimised Emergency Video triggering logic with extended pre-recording duration
- Fixed occasional app connection failures
- Enhanced motion detection and tracking performance
- Fixed other known issues

First impressions of the new 1.2.96ww update are positive.

Surround Scan works very well in collision detection mode in giving more of a view when an impact is detected. Apparently this feature was present on the original Omni (X200) years back, so it's a welcome addition here on the 4K Omni.

I've also noticed that the initial connection speed to the 4K Omni in Remote Surveillance has improved drastically. All welcome changes and hopefully we see even more updates in the near future, to polish things further.

Bitrate values for videos recorded by the 4K Omni (all in H.265, not H.264):

Note that recorded videos have variable bitrates and not constant bitrates, but aim at the values listed below. For example, there are outliers in one-channel 4K60fps footage where bitrates go as high as 50Mb/s - this appears to be only in footage that is made shaky by the vehicle/road

Front: One-channel 4K 60fps + two-channel 4K 30fps HDR: 32Mb/s for video, 66kb/s for audio.

Rear: two-channel 1080p 30fps HDR: 11Mb/s for video, 66kb/s for audio.

Front (all parking modes, recorded on microSD): 4K 60fps or 4K 30fps HDR: 32Mb/s for video, 66kb/s for audio.

Front (all parking modes, uploaded to cloud): 720p 15fps: 4.2Mb/s, 66kb/s

Was this bitrate with H.264 or H.265?

Haha forgot that, all of them H.265. H.264 is not required in my house or car no more lol
Just wanted to make sure haha
Do you happen to know if there is a difference?
