I need the custom firmware also. The BV does not like lots of green trees in the scren. Too many in my area. Video quality is terrible.

Flank, did you ever try the custom firmware yet? If yes, are you happier with the quality?

I saw your post with demo video asking which angle was best, but the quality seems low for 1080P viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1347

What bitrate did you settle on? Upload some samples :)

I don't have an updated firmware. Someone needs to upload it some where. Too many people are suffering.

Does anyone know how to incorporate the file for Asia/Calcutta for the timezone in this custom firmware? I tried but was not successful.
Check your emails
sent to GMT +5.5 ;)

The custom firmware's timezone is fixed to Moscow? I tried many times to change to America/Vancouver but it does not work. :( Any help, please? Thank you very much.

Looks good to me! 12 is probably the best balance of quality vs file size. I'm going to give it another week or two of thought before I decide which dashcam to buy. This custom Firmware bitrate increase and the 64gb format util option makes up for the out of the box flaws. The formfactor and wifi are pluses.

The only other high quality camera with similar form factor I'm interested in so far is The DOD 300W camera here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1025
It doesn't have GPS or WiFi though :( It does have HDMI and my new stereo has HDMI input so that might be cool. I could mirror my iPhone 5 to my stereo though via BlackVue iOS app.

Is the quality similar? See 2m38s

the guys in Ukraine is 30-35 оC in the shade
DVR is on 15000 bitrate and is not heated
you can change to 15000
changes in the file avserver.sh
BITRATE = "12000000-18000000"

35c is 95f in the US (pretty hot!)

If people are running their 500's 24/7, 15k (12000000-18000000) with no over heating in 35C/95F conditions that's pretty good! As long as we have a nice big 64gb card, the larger files are worth it.

Hi Micheal,

Oh.. Cool. I always scared to change to higher bitrate. Due to BV unreliable design. Hmm, i might give it a shot. I will post the sample video of 15mpbs soon.

Re: Custom Firmware for DR500GW-HD | Higher bitrate | No sta

ok here is my video sample with 12000bitrate, just got this cam yesterday, still testing the camera angle. Upload to youtube turn out not as good as my original video. :)

That's a great example where the light to dark auto transitions are jumpy/crummy. Notice when you drive through shade and then back into bright light it's over exposed for a second? (white/washed out looking until it catches up)
Mio was saying their is a sensor on the 500 not being utilized to smooth out the light-dark-light transitions. I hope he is successful in fixing this area as well. :)

Video for comparison ;)
How does exposure (shade/sun)
bitrait - 15000000
lens beward - BL03618BIR-WF
exposure - AEC

Nice! that seems much better! It never goes completely "white" when driving from dark shade of trees to direct sunlight. It's subtle as it should.

Is "AEC" something special that is turned on in your latest firmware? If so when will it be ready to let everyone else try? :)

Mio, the video looks so nice. :)
what is lens beward?

yes, this is a test mode in the firmware 1.1.0S rus

lens - http://www.beward.ru/goods/?model=5565
This lens has an angle
the same as in the DR400

So is the nice video more because of firmware 1.1 or more because of the lens? Is that lens polarized?

That page is in Russian so the google chrome translation says: "The lens for the camera f 3.6 mm, F1.8, day / night, high resolution, IR cut filter"

Did you have to open up the camera to use that lens? Does it stick over the existing one or completely replace it? (was it complex to do?)

How long will you test 1.1 before you release it to others? Nice work

video the sun directly into the lens
forgot used the polarization filter ;)

the lens is changed completely
it is slightly longer
therefore made trim
