exFat to FAT32 SmartDisk Fat32 Format Formatter Tool Utility ( How to )

FYI: The new Panorama II, S, & G firmware added exFAT file system support for >32GB cards (64GB, 128GB, 256GB).
exFAT is fine for some cards, will error with others. The recommendation is to still manually format any card over 32GB to FAT32, if you experience any problems on exFAT

It seems that by adding exFAT support, Panorama II removed support for FAT32 on cards >32GB .

We've been selling/supporting Panorama's with >32GB cards all year long. (No problems on FAT32 even 256GB). How many >32GB cards did you try? What are the make/models? It sounds like you have an isolated incident or nonstandard controller on the particular SD card you have. (Which brands?? SanDisk is reported to have problems) If you've exhausted all troubleshooting then it is time to RMA/replace your camera.

As proof I can only add that Panorama G woks with zero problems in FAT32 and exFAT with my 128GB Lexar Platinum II 200x.

exFAT with 128GB Lexar Platinum II 200x.
Stress test:
• about 72 hours of stop and go recording - zero problems.
• plus 72 hours of non stop recording in 3 minute segments - also zero problems.

Yeah mate it's been fine for me so far - just make sure to run as administrator and it has been fine so far - no need to format first or anything

If you don't do run as admin and have UAC enabled it will spit out an error usually.

Sometimes my machines don't detect a new card when I'm swapping at speed so usually have to do a diskpart - rescan to sort that out - assume that's just a quirk at my end with the USB reader though.

@Pier28 , @jokiin , @Sungmoon Jang , @niko ,

can you find out what the cluster size the pano (x2,G) system formats the cards? is it different for cards greater than 32gb over ones less than 32gb or are they all formatted with the same cluster size?

@jokiin ,

was your response directed to me? if so it did not answer the question at all.

i have no issues with card formatting. zero. i only asked my question just out of curiosity.

normally, if i ever format the cards on a computer (rare; i just let the cam do it) i choose default allocation.

its not that crucial to format in each cluster size. thanks anyway for attempting to answer... :confused:

I would have thought just putting the different size cards in the camera and formatting and then checking how it's formatted in the PC would be a logical way to see what it does based on 32gb or above, I don't have a larger card here to check myself, I know you have a variety of cards at your disposal though so you are better placed to test this than me right now :)

I've got a 64GB sat here which was formatted inside the X2 to exFAT and this is using a 128KB cluster size.

A 64GB formatted to FAT32 using fat32format is using a 32KB cluster size.

From a Windows point of view it maxes out at 32KB on FAT32 for larger than 32GB and that's what the tools like fat32format / guiformat inherit.

Here are the Windows defaults anyway (it officially lists 32GB cards as unsupported in Windows 2000 onwards using FAT32 but uses 32KB like in the first table) - I assume a 128GB card formatted using something like fat32format / guiformat would use 32KB as well so not sure what you see there (I don't have any 128GB cards!)

Hello everyone, I just tried the various methods to format a Sandisk Ultra PLUS 64 GB micro SDXC card, and was successful in finally doing so with the method explained by Pier28 on page 2 of this post, using the GUIFormat utility. Thank you very much Pier28.

My OS is Windows XP Pro with SP3.
The card is going to be used in a G1W-C Car DVR.

It says it can record:
10hrs 33min and 33sec at 1080p/30fps and
17hrs 43min and 05sec at 720p/60fps

Hi, friends.
I just tried the method explained by Pier28 on page 2 of this post, using the GUIFormat utility with my PNY 256GB SDXC card. It didn't work. My Panorama G boots or shuts down whenever I press the menu key. Sometimes the camera freezes after starting to record.
What am I doing wrong? Any help will be welcome.
