Sorry I use Mobile Tapatalk so cant cut copy paste selectively but will try to base my reply point wise.
1. Shipping from India to China should be $9 for a speed post (ems) and there would be much cheaper option if I ship it airmail with delivery time of 3-4 weeks.
2. The risk is based on an individuals assessment. A techie would spend top dollars (maybe premium also) and still take the risk of buying a product immediately upon launch and get frustrated with the niggles. Also pls do tell me which company offers at home warranty service. For every product wherever u buy apart from the no questions asked return period (that too in select cointries) where in the world u don't have to run for warranty repairs and replacements costing dollars as well as time.
3. When I say cheaper that means discount on the sale price in India so effectively China price is usually half of what's there in the Indian market. Not talking about popular products and name brands here, so does it make sense now.
4. I would request you to hold your moral policing till u understand the facts. In India anything imported thru private couriers have to pay duty regardless of the value or Atleast that's what the courier guys (DHL, FedEx) have us believe, whereas if it is coming through Indian Posts, apart from certain items like cell phones, for small values like $20/30/40 duty is usually never charged. Pls don't take the customs people to be fools especially with a friend like Google, a couple of keystroke and the actual price of the item on that site will be displayed, so why would someone want to take the risk of undervalued invoiced. Under invoicing can be done if u r importing something for resale in bulk.
Also whenever the duty is charged, it is collected by the postman when he comes to deliver the product.
Imho these big guys like DHL and for FedEx don't have the time and the need to wait for customs appraisal and pay duty on voluntary basis based on the invoice value.
And further it is best not to discuss the morality of these big corporations. Have u ever read up on corporations like Apple, Google and every one else is routing their income thru tax heavens like Ireland and others to save on taxes and why so many anti trust suits are filed and won against these corporations. Don't know about Jeff Bozos but am sure he will have have such tax saving practices in places when it comes to his income also. Did Volkswagen do the right thing by falsifying data on their exhaust emissions.
Also pls understand that I clearly stated that I indulge in buying from China only for very low cost and they also happen to be non essential hobby type items and am prepared to get lemons once in a while but I am sure it will not be always and the risk will always be much lower than the reward.
Now on the contrary I will find faults with people who don't try to understand what they are getting into and just get greedy looking at a bargain with a set mentality based on dealing with local businesses. Why shouldn't they be corrected and if are so worried about their money after problems come, why not spend some time and understand about what they are getting into. Imho if
Case in point has anybody on this forum ever tried to buy a vehicle from a used car dealership? Can u even in ur dreams expect an Amazon like service from them?
One last thing I am sure if everybody started thinking like you sites like kickstarter and most of the venture capitalists would be out of business and the world will never have another Google/apple/amazon. For every Google there are hundreds of start ups closing shop and losing others money.
