SG9665GC anyone hardwire?

Dear DCT friends,

Does anyone hardwire it?

If yes, do you have any recommendations on hardwire kit and camera settings?

Thank you,
I also did hardwiring for this cam. I used much simpler kit, though, because I had no need for "battery discharge protection" (the power to the cam turns completely off when the car is locked). Amazon has plenty of such kits, just search for something like "12v to 5v" and "Add-a-circuit" if you're using a fuse box for hardwiring.

I hard wired mine years ago, I just unplugged the old and plugged in the new cam to my power magic.

No hardwire here ( yet ), but today the lukas said goodbye to my Suzuki and hello to the Ford my little sister drive.
So at least next weekend the 9665GC can go to the prime spot of my windscreen. :)

I was planning to installing a SG9665GC with the CELL POWER CPUSB01 but I had a question about the cut off on the 12v side as it listed as 11.6v ....seems a bit low given the advise on https://dashcamtalk.com/battery-discharge-prevention/ seems to be to select something with a cut off point at 12.4V.

While I understand that you don't want to drain a battery below 11.6v to protect the actual battery from damage, the 11.6v limit does not seem to meet the 'Battery Discharge Prevention' description i.e. let me start my car please :)

Could Niko from www.hiniko.com or John from Pier28.com comment?

we sell this for hardwire purposes, for situations where you don't want to use the cigarette plug and want to have a neat install etc, it should still be wired to a switched circuit (unless you use the vehicle all the time), the 11.6v cutoff is just a safety thing, it's not like a battery discharge prevention device where you will want to set different voltages depending on vehicle type, if you wanted something for permanent power use you'd be better off with the Multi Safer or similar where you can choose the cutoff point you need

Hello Jokiin,

Thank you, as luck would have it I already have a Multi Safer ( and for that matter a Blackvue PowerPro from previous installs ), so I will use that that.

I finally got around to hardwiring the GC. I used the cell power sent to me by Pier28 (who sent the camera and kit for review).

I made this video as an example of hardwiring a dashcam into a company car. More and more companies are interested in putting dashcams in their fleet and The GC with a hardwiring kit is a great option (especially in this case where there is no rear windows for a second channel).

I should apologize for not actually showing the add-a-fuse process but I did this out in the field and had no tripod or anything just my cellphone and my tools.

Thanks for the video. I had posted a question elsewhere, but I cant seem to find it. How much energy does the cam draw off of your car battery if left on while youre parked? Ive left my cam plugged in over night by accident several times and when I go out I might leave it plugged in for security purposes, that is if they don't steal the cam itself! Over time, can the cam wear out my car battery??

then bye bye cam and warranty as the cam wont work any more if you let the smoke out of it. it needs the smoke inside of it to work properly.
There's scientific backing for this that's been known for hundreds of years. The smoke contains the phlogiston that's given off by burning the working bits. The working bits need the phlogiston to work.

Can you provide any details on the differences (aside from battery discharge prevention) between this CELL POWER CPUSB01 converter and the multitude of $5 - $10 converters available on eBay and Amazon?

Biggest thing would be the Battery Discharge Prevention, and quality of 12V-5V components for long term reliability and clean power.

Is there one of these with dual USB ports that can handle 2 GC's .?

Thanks

My adventures in dash-cam land have not been happy so far. I've decided to abandon Mini 0806 and go for SG.
I had my car hard-wired with the kit that came with a mini 0806. It's this one

$_57.JPG

It ends with a micro USB plug. A few questions:

  1. can I use a micro to mini USB adaptor and use it to power a SG9665GC?
  2. is it worth doing that or should I cut my losses and go for the recommended one?

Thanks for the welcome.

It should be wired correctly. In the good old days, when cars were simple, I did this sort of thing myself. This time, I got it done by my specialist Saab maintenance/tuning guys. I'm too old and cars are too complex :) I would have had to go into the SRS airbag area and avoid those circuits.

It's meant to be active when the engine is running. It's a circuit that becomes alive when the engine is started. Fingers crossed, eh :)

Not that I'm aware of, as far as the non modular fixed mini-USB hard wire kits go.

Jon, Just so I understand are you saying that something like this won't be good enough? or that you currently don't have one that's similar? Do I actually need two separate converter units to hardwire the 2 GC's in my car?

Also, on another note. Sometime back you or Jokiin were working on a possible solution to the FM interference problem, any updates to that?

Thanks

Fred

yes we're working on a couple of things, once we have that ready Jon will be in touch to arrange to replace some things for you, still a couple of weeks away at least at this stage

just on that you prefer a hardwire solution or cig plug?
