SG9665GC anyone hardwire?

if I can work out the pattern over the weekend I can get the engineer working on it on Monday, @wozzzzza is uploading some files for me now to have a look at, luckily he got some suitable files today that we can look at, once we can work it out then we can replicate it, once we can replicate it we can debug it

GPS gives us more grief than anything else, there's so many variables with timezone offsets etc, there's a stack of stuff that can go wrong with just the smallest typo in a line of code

I wonder if it is anything to do with waking up the camera? That is, if I hadn't woken up the camera, would it have continued to record as it did for the past XX hours? Does waking up the camera trigger the GPS to check for a signal?

In my case, and in both instances, I had woken up the camera just to check on it upon returning to the car and the time this occurred coincided with the start point of the file listing error.

@wozzzzza has found some files in his recordings today which seem to highlight the problem, will be having a close look at those once he's had a chance to upload them for us

maybe some relationship, something will be looking at when trying to replicate the issue, thanks for mentioning it

not in my case, the car was sitting idle in an open carpark assume with gps signal with no one in it and cam recording and time went wah wah. same thing when it went back to normal again, but in undercover carpark no gps signal.

Just got home from a short drive to drop my missus off in the CBD.

Checked the card and I have full >8hours of recording with no missing clips. I have recordings from 0414 hours to 1228 hours with no missing clips or errors in the file listing. My car was parked undercover throughout the night.

So what did I do different this time? I did not, for once, wake the camera up when I jumped into the car. This seems to have prevented triggering the GPS to find a signal, etc., so it's worked for me. Will continue with this until a permanent cause/fix can be established.

What value of fuse is recommended for the SG9665GC? I have 2, 3, 4, and 5 amp rated fuses on hand that I can use.

Here is a hardwire install I did on a 2005 Corolla last weekend.

Started out by assembling some wiring. I used a nice Amphenol ATM Series connector for easy disconnection and troubleshooting. This connector type is probably overkill but it's fully sealed against environmental contamination and has a secure locking latch.

Installed the first section in the car. The fuse tap was installed in the switched cigarette lighter fuse position and can be seen leaving the fuse box. The ground ring terminal was added to an existing grounding point seen in the upper left.

This car has a small drawer near the driver's side door. Removing this drawer allows access to the space behind it. The fuse box seen earlier is also close by.

The CPUSB01 converter was mounted in this area with velcro and the excess wiring was coiled beneath it. The connector plug and receptacle meet in the middle and are held down with more velcro. In order to disconnect the converter from the car all that needs to be done is remove the drawer and undo the connector.

The USB wire is easily run up the driver's side A-pillar and into the headliner.

Excess wire was coiled up and secured in this area.

The USB wire then runs along the edge of the headliner until it comes out right where it needs to be.

Nice professional install !

Thanks, can you keep an eye on this and let me know how it goes

Any luck on identifying the root cause @jokiin?

I am almost certain that waking up the screen, after the vehicle has been parked for an extended period of time with no GPS signal, is the root cause to missing clips. Over the past week or so, I have not noticed any missing clips from my SD card, and that's because I never woke up the screen.

Engineers are still working on it, there's another bug also so trying to get it sorted together

Thanks again for the feedback, it all helps

No dramas. Just keep us posted on progress :)

So I took my Cadillac XTS to an audio dealer to have the wiring installed. The entire fuse box, every fuse has 12 volts to it when the car is off. The guy told me that the car accessories all run off of relay switches after the fuse. So he unbolted a cover under the dash, eventually found a 12v accessory wire and spliced it in for me. Took him an hour and only charged me $50.

You're lucky :) My 2007 Saab is based on the GM Epsilon I platform whereas your Cadillac is based on an enlarged version of the GM Epsilon II platform. You might be tempted to think that there could be some family similarities. No such luck. The fuse box is in the boot/trunk. The available accessory circuits are behind the passenger side dash and to get to them you have to open up the area where all the air bag stuff is. It's best to leave that alone. Not easy to find somewhere to connect it. So I had mine done by my specialist Saab maintenance place. A little more expensive. Never mind. It's worth it.

Now this is an interesting thread and has been well worth the read.
Carmen, my 1 week old GC, is currently under trial. Intention was to hardwire as near permanently on, with a battery discharge protection kit & new deep cycle battery ……. but …..
Adding all that adds a lot of cost and complexity. I’m more than happy with pulling my car apart, running wires, avoiding air bag & cable routing issues, etc, etc ……. but …..
In trialing the best position for Carmen I have been using blutack to stick her to various locations on the front and rear screens and have been powering her via a small usb power pack.
Mid way through these trials I took delivery of a 16000mAh Power Bank for my laptop and decided to trial Carmen on this.
I charged the new power pack (Xiaomi 16000mAh Power Bank) once and set it to work powering Carmen, bow I’m bored.

I connected Carmen up to the power pack at 8:30am yesterday morning. Now, +37hrs later, she is still brightly blinking away as she records (hopefully) everything that passes within her sphere of vision.

I’m now totally rethinking the complexity of permanent wiring,
Not only would I avoid the substantial expense of “properly” hard wiring but I would also avoid any potential for audio interference.
Yeah, yeah, these batteries can be bombs if mistreated through excessive heat or puncture ……. but …..
I can easily route a power cable down to an accessible area under the dash and can even insulate the power pack if excessive summer heat looks to be an issue.
Carmen would also not be subjected to car battery surges, spikes or under voltages at crank.

I have noticed that every now and then her teeny tiny screen (really, why is it there?) turns itself on for the 15 sec I have set it down to so hopefully I won’t see any recording glitches this thread has mentioned.
Best case the power pack will keep Carmen recording for another +12hrs and I’ll check how she has fared recording wise after the pack finally runs out.

Currently thinking a 10000mAh pack would be more than sufficient as it would give over 30hrs continuous recording so could be swapped out once a day

Anyone see issue with this approach, and if so why?
