Dash Cam
too many
This has been in the news for a few days. Two people killed in the car he plowed into, and there are reports he was 'racing' or driving aggressively before this video.
The time stamp on the dash cam video is wrong. This just happened a few days ago.

The 'investigation' is taking the normal path of ineptness, convenient errors, delays, but it appears the affluent driver will be charged with 'something'.

Apparently the driver refused to be tested for alcohol.

Wow ! Merc was pulling some serious speed ... ( Rich SOB driver ? ) and murdered two people , I sure do hope Thailand has not made murder legal for rich people ...

Unfortunately, the rich or powerful seem to get some pretty favorable treatment.
:(
In this situation people are mad enough it's getting some attention.

"“They confirmed that police officers told him to get a blood test, but Mr. Jenphop refused,” Gen. Pongsapat told reporters after visiting the hospital in Ayutthaya today. “Mr. Jenphop said, ‘No, sir, I cannot let you do a blood test, because I’m afraid of needles.’”

I doubt that would work for me. :(

And between the toll gate and ramming the car, he ran over two people on a motorbike.

"The suspect then allegedly hit a motorcycle in front of Panya housing estate, injuring the motorcyclist and his girlfriend. The victims have lodged a complaint with Khlong Tan police station. "

I wish I could say that this is an isolated incident here but unfortunately this is the norm. For the right amount of money you can literally get away with murder.

You have to remember that the majority of Thai's have only had cars for a relatively short period in history, they didn't grow up with them like the western world did so it is a bit like giving a kid a loaded gun.

I know of a situation on Koh Samui where a guy hit someone on his motorbike and he paid the cops off, who actually moved the body to the other side of the island and said the accident was hit and run.

TIT ( That is Thailand) is a favorite saying here....

is it a bad picture or are the rear tyres very short on rubber?

I think it's just a bad picture. This angle shows the passenger tire having good tread (left side) as opposed to the other pic.

It looks like this guy owner a luxury import car dealer over there from another news article I read on it.

I think it was his father ( owner of luxury car import business )

I haven't been south of BKK, but have been at least through most of the northern half of thailand. I can count how many 'highway patrol' cars I've seen on one hand.

Most of the police I've seen are at checkpoints on the highway, or maybe two traffic police on a 200cc motorbike. I guess the second cop on the back goes 'woo woo' like a siren when they are in pursuit of a speeding moped with a chicken thief on board?

I can't figure out the 'police' thing there, yet. :)
(And hope I never have a reason to learn first hand.)

It is pretty easy to figure out....the police are there for one thing only and that is their benefit. If there is not some way to make money they have no interest in doing anything that could be construed as public service. I always have a laugh as I approach one of their traffic stops, because as soon as they see a farang (foreigner) driving they get a smile on their face....right up until I hold up my Thai drivers license then the smile is gone and they wave me thru.....no pay day today ;)

On the other hand of course when you are in the wrong all it takes is a bit of grease and away you go. TIT

I only was 'questioned' at one of the many check points I ran into. Usually they waved you through. This one made me nervous. A single policeman on a road somewhere between Mukdahan, and Yasothon. He was smiling too much. :)
He didn't speak much english, so talked to my thai friend. I was waiting for her to tell me to get my wallet out for my license or ????....and she said OK, drive away.
i gather he just asked where we were coming from, and where we were going.

I do like those concrete policemen they have.
