Vantrue E360

This is how I installed the E360 in my car, since there is no suitable place on the windshield.

I see you used your own stand to raise the camera position. Do you think it would help users to find a suitable mount position if Vantrue offered a mount riser, either in the box or as an accessory, that could fix to either the dash or the windshield?

A suction cup mount has already been made for the windshield.

I didn't lift the mount on purpose. I needed to change the camera angle. But with this design, the camera has a slight vibration, which is not very good for shooting video.
I would be quite happy if there was a mounting option like the Viofo VS1.

Since I plan to use handheld shooting for more than the four hours stated by the manufacturer, I was concerned about the question:
"Is it possible to charge the selfie stick during handheld shooting?" This question was asked to a Vantrue representative.
Answer from a Vantrue representative:
"During handheld shooting, you can charge the battery in the E360 handheld holder".

@Karagandinez I hope you don't mind me posting these pics in your thread, they seemed appropriate for the current topic.

There is no obvious indicator that confirms it's actually charging while mated to the stand.

It's very easy to attach the stand to the camera, you just place the bolt against the threaded hole and spin the tripod into the camera, thus sucking the two together.
The tendency is to want to press the two together but that's not the right way. The Vantrue literature states the connector is gold plated which is excellent for reliability.

@Hack_man:

There are four green leds under the E360 logo of the mount. It gives the power status of the battery. If one is flashing, it means it's charging.

No problem.

I have the E360 in my car and I have no way to check, but I thought that the green LEDs would also light up on the holder, as when charging without the E360.
The photo shows that there is an indication. 😉

You are correct the sun was so bright I couldn't see the green LED's 😎

Personally, I am considering the E360 for installation in a minibus mainly for work in parking mode, and for monitoring passengers while driving.
I also like the ability to use the E360 as an action camera. For example, when fishing.
Have you tested the parking mode yet?

I made a comment over on bhb's thread, maybe you would like to do a similar test...

I checked the recordings in parking mode: Low bitrate recording".
The recording is done in the resolution: 1920x1080 15FPS, the length of the video is 3 minutes.
Here are the results from the front and interior cameras:
F = Frame 2700 (0:03:00.000)
I = Frame 2700 (0:03:00.000)
No dropped frames.

It is not dropped frames that is the problem, the problem is that the image sensor does not appear to be doing 15fps even though the codec was, so different frames show different amounts of movement, some have very different amounts of movement.

I don't know if the other parking mode recording was using low bitrate mode, possibly your 15fps is better?

If I don't forget tomorrow, I will provide you with the original parking video file from the main camera.
Karagandinez has provided me with some parking video, and the 15fps is definitely not smooth, every 6th frame is about a third the time period of the previous 5, so it appears to keep almost pausing every 6th frame, then you have 5 frames played back faster than they were recorded, before another pause.

It's not a huge problem, since it corrects the timing error almost 3 times per second, so never gets too inaccurate, but playback would look a lot nicer if it was smooth, and with only 15fps, it is far easier to see the imperfection than if it was 60fps with mis-timed frames.

The problem can't be seen when there is no movement, but is apparent when the red car reverses out at around 10 seconds into the video.
15fps is half the normal 30fps, it should still play smoothly and the car should move smoothly, even though you should be able to see individual frames.

Raw video file, straight from the camera:

wow my eyeballs just can't see the non-smoothness. I even played it back at x 0.2 speed but I don't notice the reduced time period in every sixth frame.
I'm sure it's there to a trained eye but I would never have noticed.

Try stepping through it frame by frame and comparing the distance the red car moves in each frame; once you have seen the problem you will also see it at normal speed, and then it will annoy you every time you watch parking footage 😉

I stepped thru the red car's motion and I do count 15 Frames in a second. Occasionally I do see how the car moves a tiny bit further in some of the frames than others. Couldn't that be due to variations in speed and the fact that the car is turning while moving and not moving at a constant linear speed? More likely my eyeballs are still missing it 🙄

Cars are heavy, they don't change speed significantly in 1/15th of a second, only to return to the original speed 1/15th second later.

The Vantrue Connected app has a choice of camera settings. You can choose to shoot with the front camera or with the front
and interior cameras at the same time.
Nothing can be changed in parking mode.
I asked the Vantrue representative to add a function to set up the interior camera in parking mode. The Vantrue representative explained that such a setting exists and where to find it.
In the E360 menu, in the parking mode settings, there is a choice of setting up the interior camera.
So you can set up the interior camera so that it only shoots in parking mode.
