Vantrue N4S

This is still in 3 channel configuration with the Vantrue 128gb memory card.

I'm actually surprise how fast it started failing/dropping off and restarting recording. My drive this morning started at 8:01am (outside temperature ~60*F) - within a few minutes, it already missed few seconds of recording but did continue with 3 channel and then dropped off again.

Same thing in the afternoon drive from work - within few minutes it started stuttering/dropping off.

Well that rules out the memory card. I'm still wondering about the 3 channel configuration, with the rear camera causing problems since I appear to be an outlier not experiencing dropouts and I am not using a rear camera.
 
I'll disconnect the rear camera tomorrow morning - also swapped it with a Vantrue 256gb memory card.

Going to test as well using a Vantrue card to eliminate odd file sizes. Vantrue support recommended disconnecting the rear camera, as you stated, to see if the problem resolves. I will be doing this myself.

@EricSan @Hack_man

So it's safe to say the N4S hates Sandisk. I now have consistent file sizes. So Vantrue doesn't work with these models, even though it doesn't specifically state it. The N4 and S1 Pro do say don't use Sandisk, but not the N4S or S1 Pro Max.

I'm not seeing any missing footage with the Vantrue Card. However, I'll give it a few days and see what happens before disconnecting rear camera. I want to get an "Affirmative" result that the SD card isn't a problem.
 
@jsmith was the loop's time truncated when the file size was inconsistent? So in that case what should be a 3 minute loop might truncate to something less than 3 minutes.

Are we saying there are two separate problems, inconsistent file sizes and the rear camera drops out? For some reason I was thinking they were maybe related.

Tentatively, I had two problems.

1. Vantrue N4S (and possibly other models) don't like Sandisk High Endurance cards so files were randomly truncated and less than 3 minutes. I have another Sandisk Card I could test, but right now to eliminate other issues, see #2

2. I installed the 128GB Vantrue from another test camera into the N4S for the moment. Tentatively, the small file sizes aren't showing up and no missed footage yet. It's only been about 1/2 day. I'll use the car and camera over the next few days to see what happens.
 
One day of testing without rear camera - everything seems to be recording normally, at least on the 256gb Vantrue card. I swapped back to the 128gb Vantrue card for tomorrow... We shall see.
 
I made a nearly 400 mile round trip yesterday with the rear camera disconnected. The front and cabin cameras were running and I have 268 3min videos on a 128G Vantrue card. There are no missing files and all files are a full 3mins long. I'm repeating this trip on Saturday, I'll have the rear camera connected then to see how things go.

Another interesting test would be to leave the rear camera connected and select only Front and Rear cameras (disable Cabin).
Does the rear camera then work OK? Maybe it just does not like to work with all three channels.

That's the theory right now. I need to check videos from today and see if it started adding gaps for missed footage yet.

I surmise we're going to find out that this is likely a firmware issue, although there's still potential for a a hardware conflict, too.
 
So far, I am not seeing camera drops or irregular file sizes with the Vantrue 128GB SD card. I'll continue to monitor footage.

Is it possible that disrecord was caused by the TF card being almost full and the recorder randomly deleting earlier recorded video files
 
No, it's missing files in the middle of the list of recordings, not the oldest ones. And it's happened with newly formatted cards that are not yet full.

I'm not seeing irregular file sizes or dropped footage as of yet with the Vantrue Card utilizing all 3 channels. All my files thus far seem to be 3 minutes. I'm going to run this a few days and see if I encounter the issue everyone mentions here.

It looks like my initial problem was the Sandisk on truncating files. But as others mentioned, it appears missing footage is supposedly universal.

Waiting to see if I encounter that issue.

No issues today with the 128gb Vantrue card running front + interior only.

I have a question. When you say dropping, you're referring to the file size being truncated (too small and short), correct?

Have you checked event folder to see if G-Force triggered the remainder of the file to be saved as an event?

I'm still doing my testing with a Vantrue Card.

Would you mind posting a CLIP to youtube from the Files you highlighted showing exactly what's happening. Before, During, and After the issue happens.

Correct - short/randomly stopped recording and then resumed at random time.

I've checked and it's not there. If a triggered locked file, it seems to save the whole clip over to the event folder.

Unfortunately I've deleted the memory card after the issue occurred - though it's repeatable. It just stops recording before the 1 minute interval and resumes at a random time, whenever it wants to on its own. No consistency.
 
Strangest thing is... this morning I set to record front + rear only... almost to work at ~8:19am, it stopped recording and switched back to 3 channel (front + interior + rear). And ever since it self reset to default 3 channel, it's been recording in 3 channel mode on my way back from work this afternoon.
