VIOFO A119 PRO Modified Firmware MODs Archive

Here are 2 files of the same road on different days - one where the sun was out using the official 1.3 firmware, and then two days later using FWA119P_MOD-07_v1.31+27Mbps+Sharp34+Edge178+DICE(1).bin after a sharp downpour...

Which do you think is better? Exposure wise and shadow detail?

Thanks for the UK clips.
The harshest image test is driving into the sun to detect differences. The official A119Pro FW1.31 1080P@30fps at 15Mbps default is actually very good into the sun as auto exposure takes over. The footage with MOD-07 1440P@30fps 27Mbps is better based on object edge sharpness and definition, but near end of clip it gets very dark under trees. The angle of light into sun isn't best test for shadows since much is over exposed and auto adjust algorithums are hitting max limits. I often do the same direct sun clip comparisons but I currently have no access to Brightness or Contrast settings for adjustments so Official FW will always look similar to my MOD'd stuff since both are using same locked settings only sun angles differ which can skew the comparison. I'd still pick the MOD-07 easily over the official based on your clips. Another image quality loss is motion blurring if WDR is enabled, the scene will look good but car plates will have increased blurring. Run the same route but opposite direction with sun behind. If possible for easier sharing set Loop Recording to 1min clips.

I have been running the previous FWA119P_v1.31_27Mbps_Sharp32_blueDICE higher bitrate firmware for 2 weeks now without any problems. I will give the newer edge178 version a go next week. Thanks to all involved for the work on this firmware.

PARKING MODE not working on MOD-7?. I test this morning and not registering some "P" on the video file.. or I am doing wrong ? thanks

Depends what resolution is set. 1440P at 27Mbps should support Parking Mode
but 1080P only supports 18Mbps and possibly 20Mbps maximum and not sure if Parking works on both. A119Pro will crash if 1080P is modified to anything higher than 20Mbps.
BINGO - you are correct somehow I left FWA119P_MOD-07c_v1.31+27Mbps+Sharp34+Edge178+DICE.bin at the higher 24Mbps bitrate, <-- removed MOD-07c
Changed the Stable MOD-07 from 27.1 to 27.0Mbps,
let me know if Parking Mode still fails and which resolution is used.

view my Parking Mode video (A119S but same) for full description, usually MP4 file Parking clip has "P" appended.

Now testing the MOD-07 at 1440P@30fps, then the MOD-07 c in Parking Mode.

Thanks for confirming 1080P@30fps works at 20Mbps on A119Pro, realistically it should support 24Mbps but instead crashes video, so it has hard limit of 20Mbps for 1080P.
VIOFO has limiter preventing Parking Mode at 60fps from what I remember, its about low power mode and time lapse.

Will the MOD-08 repeat what V7 did, with TS Mode?

Excellent timing!
I am this very moment creating the new MODs based on v1.32 , but I require all input now before selecting IQ values.
Official v1.32 may have Bit Rate limit lock that just appeared in A119S Beta so I'll create two MODs one using new 25.6Mbps limit the other 27.0Mbps. If the higher one fails update again using official firmware and let me know to remove the MOD.

New A119PRO MOD series named using this structure
5L = v1.32 + 25Mbps + combined IQ settings L values (values you are about to help me decide)
6L = v1.32 + 26Mbps + combined IQ settings L values
7L = v1.32 + 27Mbps + combined IQ settings L values
7Lc = v1.32 + copied settings from previous MOD-7c_v1.31+27Mbps+Sharp34+Edge178+DICE
Those online now can help set these initial IQ values for your Dashcams, if you are fine with copying the previous acceptable values it will be used.
If the Sharpness seems slightly high I will reduce Edge Detection to 148, if not high enough will raise Sharpness to 40 or 48.

Created new MODs using FW v1.32 with TS video format option. These modified firmware binary files are saved in Stable MODs > Stable FW 1.32 folder.
Must verify MOD-7Lc loads correctly since Bit Rate limit may be active in v1.32, if fails delete binary file from card and copy official FW and update again to recover.
Feedback is needed on image quality changes.

Link please?

So I have uploaded your MOD-6Lc firmware into my memory card. I will try to post image/video tonight. ;)

Scene 1:
1.32.1.jpg

Scene 2:
1.32.2.jpg

Scene 3:
1.32.3.jpg

So to clarify, the top pic from every scene is the original firmware v1.0, WDR ON. Middle pic is firmware v1.2 with WDR OFF (default) and bottom pic is firmware 1.32 MOD 6Lc with WDR ON. As you can see the bottom pic has different angle as it's tilted slightly down, showing a portion of my car hood. I apologize for the not so apple-to-apple or orange-to-orange comparison, but this pictures are just to get a general idea. :)

Should I turn on WDR or off?

Great job comparing different Firmware at night. The WDR on/off shows noticeable differences, but can increased motion blur while driving, for testing set WDR off.
Suggest future tests set WDR off, EV 0, CPL on if available, Camera Model on, Loop Recording 1min

I have CPL always on, will set WDR to off when I get the chance. But why do you recommend Loop Recording 1 min? I'm currently set to 3 min.

In future you may want to share and upload RAW footage like other Beta Testers and 3mins is too big to upload/download. For your own use and mine I leave at 3mins also.

Uploaded MOD-5Lc for those wanting 25.0 Mbps

BCHobbyist Firmware MOD-7Lc has loaded with no problems on my A119Pro. Thanks
Appreciate the 27Mbps load test, needed to confirm VIOFO's bitrate limits were active or not, now we know there is no limit yet.
Image quality should remain the same as v1.31, report any issues please, thx.
