I think this MOD has more noise than previous ones from night scenes. Noise which i don't like.
Tomorow when it gets dark i will do a comparation between 6Nq and some other firmware. Maybe i am wrong.
Good eye! 6Nq especially on high sharpness level introduces fine graininess to night video. This is easily controlled by lowering Edge Detection to 138-144 but will reduce the crisp effect. This is the first version and adjustments are needed. Agreed it should be reduced slightly, will add to the revision list.

Now that is an exciting bit of news. Nice that you found the 1.01 in the matrix. 7Hb was just so good, it was a shame that it had to basically be pushed aside. Who says new is always better... It's awesome that similar settings can finally be incorporated into the newer FW. 7Hb may actually be surpassed.

Here's a clip from 6Nq. It's a foggy night so I won't suggest changes, as it probably won't be accurate. I can easily tell it's already a substantial improvement over 6Vf. As was mentioned earlier though, it looks to be darker than 7Hb.

1080p@30fps - CPL - WDR Off - EV 0 - 60Hz - Lens 2 (129) - Sharpness Normal

This clip is mostly for the first few seconds. Apparently any green light means go!

Those are both good cards. I used that Sandisk 128GB Ultra A1 with no issues until it was lost.

If that's a trustworthy site, I would order either, or both. If you're not sure, maybe see if you can find a physical store similar to best buy that would price match and buy it in shop.

If you watch the clip again you will notice that those two people marked with yellow are passing on the sidewalk marked with red. Well, let's pretend like they are going to shoot you, or... they are getting robbed.
You have nothing on the camera, even though the car is very close.
In my opinion this is unaccetable for IMX291, even with WDR Off.

Maybe we need side cameras... :)

Some 6Nq clips from today:
normal sharpness - quite good, similar to v1.01 - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1e9tDoWpO3POI0JLOr_SWG3AOmdS03oiT/view?usp=sharing
strong sharpness - too much plastic, but pleasant to watch - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FGznoyeBioSHtT--AoW4vK-O1ntBCXFI/view?usp=sharing
soft sharpness - who would ever want soft? - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QhjohGisNNZpMasjWASMFCBoiXio9SnZ/view?usp=sharing

Normal is a tiny bit sharper than real life, as far as I can see it; sharpness value 56 might be a sweet spot and should be the minimum, me thinking.

I agree that it's dark, I did mention it was darker than 7Hb in my post, and it was mentioned by Koganiz as well. BCHobbyist already made note of it earlier. This is why we are all beta testing the FW. Also you do need to realise though, that this is not just a minor tweak to 6Vf, there has been a massive amount of changes done. The picture settings have kind of been overhauled. Don't worry, the brightness will be fixed. This is essentially the first version of all new settings again. If you read my post, I also didn't want to make suggestions for changes to picture quality settings yet as it was a foggy night, and anything I may suggest, might not be correct. I would rather wait for a more clear day and a more clear night.

This also again brings up something I mentioned maybe a month or so ago, that we should make sure we give the same amount of focus on night video as we do on day. Especially since this is the A119S, which is the dashcam marketed specifically for its superior night quality. I would suggest to all the beta testers, that if possible, you provide as many clips of night time driving as you do for day. This is especially important when there has been a new revision of the FW done. It's easy to see what changes have been done for daytime video, but not always so for night.

Sorry if it sounds like criticism. It was not my intention. Just wanted to point out an important detail from your video.

No worries, I didn't take offence.

I just thought it was important to explain the current state of the new FW, why I didn't suggest changes yet, and that you don't need to worry.

You Sir, continue to inject immediate direct alarming attacks against image quality. Your comments accurately identify an IQ issue with newest unverified MOD, your piercing gaze with super vision is exactly what is needed to identify and improve image quality. BCHobbyist could not wait another 6months for official IQ improvements so, on August 5, 2018 released the first modified firmware. I pledge never to keep anyone waiting 6 months for IQ changes.
Good eye !! Your DCTeam level has risen, you now qualify as IQA = Image Quality Analyst , congratz!

Great early A119S 6Nq 60fps comparisons, exactly what is needed for assessments, Agreed the soft level should be Normal leaving two for slightly higher sharpness, from this day forward will use this new leveling scheme.
Your footage suggests +2 brightness, sharpness 56-57-60, saturation looks balanced. thanks for sharing, well done.

A Clean Windshield is a MUST for all Dash Cam Testers and End Users. There are many automotive cleaning products, some good, usually expensive others leave residue reducing IQ. The procedure that yielded acceptable results is as follows.

How to Clean the Windshield inside and out.
1) Do not use Windex or any ammonia based products, they leave residue. Do not use Summer Windshield Washer Bug Wash fluid to clean interior windshield it leaves residue. Avoid using vinegar solutions unless removing hardwater marks or salt buildup, it also leaves residue.
2) Get 4 Liter jug of 100% Distilled Water (not mineral water).
3) Get 4 Liter jug of Winter Windshield Washer fluid which contains methyl alcohol.
4) Get 2 small empty spray bottles.
5) Get 10 Micro-Fiber Cloths (not low quality).
6) Get 1 Liter bottle of liquid mild dish soap.
7) Get 1 large towel to cover interior dash.
8) Exterior Windshield requires heavy rinse with tap water.
9) Use old wet rag to clean Wiper Blade edges.
10) for minor marks or dust spray Distilled water to soak surface.
11) wipe folded wet micro-fiber cloth over windshield, unfold half way across.
12) for heavier cleaning spray windshield washer fluid from bottle, then wipe down.
13) wipe in horizontal then vertical motion for each half windshield, repeat using 2 cloths.
14) Dried tree sap, bug guts, bird gifts require repeated applications.
15) Rinse exterior glass with distilled water then wipe down with dry cloth.
16) Use Wipers on partly wet windshield to check for streaking.
17) Interior Windshield collects grime from plastic dash off-gassing, smoke, smears.
18) cover interior dash with thick towel, remove Dash Cams.
19) spray entire glass surface with distilled water.
20) add 4-6 drops dish soap to wet micro-fiber cloth rub until suds appear.
21) wipe entire glass surface repeatedly and keep damp but not dripping wet.
22) wipe in circular motion unfolding wet soapy cloth to absorb more grime.
23) rinse with distilled water spray and clean wet cloth unfolding to absorb soap.
24) repeatedly rinse using clean cloths until all soap is gone.
25) heavy smears, grease, smudges may require washer fluid spray then rinse.
26) use defrost vents to dry faster.

These 6Nq clips reveal the IQ issues, thanks for great route and footage. Some like the higher Saturation but consensus wants -10 value, Brightness is low change to +3 for night, Sharpness is off will reduce Edge detection -2 to reduce halo, Sharpness level range will change from 55-57-60 to 57-58-60. Revised 6Nr now in Alpha testing due to frequent adjustments.

Created new A119S - Beta version 6Nr See post #1 of thread for details and ChangeLog.
Welcome to Rainy Weekday MODs !!
Request feedback on Sharpness, Saturation, Brightness under all lighting conditions.
More work is needed to tweak these settings and levels, all feedback is welcome. We are getting much closer to Stable version, well done!

MOD 6Nq - 1080p@30fps - EV 0 - WDR Off - CPL - 60Hz - Lens 2(129) - Sharpness Strong

It was an overcast day today, but here are a couple from the afternoon. Agreed that brightness needs a boost. Saturation does seem to be a bit much, but not by a large amount. Could the darker picture be exaggerating it?
Very Good 6Nq cloudy day footage, very timely to confirm IQ adjustments for increased brightness, reduced saturation and reduced edge detection to fix halo effect. Thanks for sharing.
All adjustments made in new 6Nr which looks fantastic at night so far.

So it started to rain and I felt like driving around in it for a bit. Here's a couple of night clips from 6Nr.

1080p@30fps - WDR Off - EV 0 - CPL - Sharpness Normal - 60Hz - Lens 2 (129)

https://drive.google.com/open?id=16HJqmGpsF94aMmUE4gQzVGFZmSXSoasX
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1D23GzopXey3I_jl23IFuEk2GGhz4ufVy

Brightness boost has absolutely helped night video quality. Visibility on the peripherals is also better. Video looks natural, I'm excited to see daytime clips.

Rain-X!!

I think that finding the way to incorporate the settings from 1.01 7Hb into 4.0x has been the best thing to happen to the FW so far. I think we're absolutely on the right track now!

Fantastic Sharpness in heavy rain without wipers! New 6Nr Beta Firmware is passing all the IQ tests. Thanks for the footage and Rain-X demonstration.
The idea to extract specific IQ values from A119S v1.01 FW was yours. Combined with the unlocked Brightness control we should achieve much better Image Quality, just need Contrast control. All previous DCTeam Alpha & Beta test footage especially all the 6N series clips were key factors in identifying the four new table values with v1.01 unique tables being the most visually noticeable.
Require some bright blue sky 6Nr footage from somewhere in the world!
You now qualify for DCTeam EWD = Extreme Weather Driver, congratz!
