Vantrue N4S

@jsmith

Here's a screenshot from 5:21pm -> 5:22pm from the front camera.

5:21pm clip ended early at only 14 seconds - timestamp 17:21:25

Next clip 5:22pm file - timestamp 17:21:41 - missed 16 seconds of recording

Strangest thing is... this morning I set to record front + rear only... almost to work at ~8:19am, it stopped recording and switched back to 3 channel (front + interior + rear).
I thought I noticed the dashcam switching which cameras are recording all by itself, too, but I wasn’t sure, so I haven’t posted anything about this yet. I wanted to be more methodical abut my testing first. I didn’t connect the change in which cameras are recording to the file dropout…. This would seem to indicate something might be causing the dashcam to reset itself somehow.

@runtohell121

Saw other post... What loop record do you have? 1 or 3 minutes?
1 minute loops.

If it was a permanent install, it would have been 3 minute loops, but for testing purposes, I usually prefer 1 minute loop for ease of finding clips + uploads.

Hard to notice unless one is reviewing the memory card daily and/or watching the N4S periodically to see what it's doing.

I was just testing as someone suggested to try recording front + rear and disable interior to see if the file dropping would still occur - which might have along with the camera recording setting resetting itself.

This is a tuff one. You probably only noticed it because you were dutifully scanning your SD card files. On Viofo dashcams, there is an alert "Recording, 'X' Channel started" when the camera glitches during an interrupted loop. There is still a gap in the recording, but at least you know there is a problem. I just had this happen on my A229 Pro last week, there was a random 2 second long recording and then I got the message alert before the next full 3 minute loop started.

Many things can cause this, including a corrupted SD card, firmware glitch, power interruption/camera cable connections.

It would be good if Vantrue could give some kind of audible alert when this happens so at least the user knows something is wrong.

So I've run the Vantrue N4S for 3 days now on a 128GB Vantrue SD card with 3 Minute Loop Recording. I am not finding irregular file sizes or gaps after 3 days. I'll continue the test longer and see what happens.

I wonder if this is a heat related issue or a memory card problem?

Are you recording on all three channels?

Are you recording on all three channels?

Yes. Channel A, B, and C. I've scrolled through the MicroSD card and cannot find any missing channels as of yet. 128GB Vantrue SD card (previous was Sandisk). 3 Minute loop record. HDR Auto. OBD II hardwire. So far so good...

I'll check again tomorrow and post screenshot of memory card

Had a full day of driving on Saturday and finally reviewed the clips off the Vantrue 128gb memory card. The dropping does happen in the morning or at the beginning.

Morning drive - started off in 3 channel (8:08AM) then dropped to front + interior only for the rest of the drive (10:45AM)

10:58AM was next drive, started up in 3 channel, then dropped around 11:01AM (short drive; was 5 min to destination)

11:26AM was next drive - started to have issues around 11:30AM - drive ended at 11:39AM

After 12:00PM drives, the N4S recorded normally in 3 channel for the rest of the day...

I've had my N4S set to 3min loops from the start. Still seeing drop outs. New rear camera is on the way, so I'm hoping that resolves the issue.

Are you running the NEWEST FIRMWARE on the old camera?

After switching from the Sandisk --> Vantrue MicroSD what I thought was the same issue as here turned out to be different. I've monitored the simcard for 5 days. Now that car is maybe used for a few hours a day tops right now, but I cannot recreate the issue of missing footage now.

As far as I know, the latest Firmware for N4S is N4S_VT-EED181
Vantrue told me on July 8 that they have not uploaded any N4S Firmware to their website.

I would wait and see if @EricSan has problem after being sent another camera. Hopefully it's just a few bad production cameras, but I cannot seem to replicate issue myself.

How much driving do you have to do for this to happen? Is there any specific circumstance in which this occurs? Normal Mode only? Parking Mode? Is it hot outside when this happens (camera overheats)?

@jsmith

Asked me to switch to 3 minute - same issues. Short drives during work week.

Scary thing if one was thinking the N4S was recording, it was not recording for ~20 min of the drive during the drive home from 5:40PM to 6:05PM

I'm guessing either the MicroSD card Vantrue sent you and @EricSan are faulty or you guys got a bad batch of cameras. Oddly, I've run mine for 5 days now and not seen any missing footage. Now the camera is only being used a few hours a day, but I haven't seen any unaccounted for gaps.

I’ve used two different Vantrue SD cards, so I’m thinking that’s not the issue.

Guessing an issue with the cameras. Hoping your replacement resolves the issue. I've done everything I can think of to replicate the problem and so far haven't experienced it once I ditched the Sandisk card.

I think I've tried 2 Vantrue (128gb & 256gb) and Sandisk Max Endurance 256gb.. all have issues.

I might be receiving the Vantrue N4 Pro S soon and I believe that rear camera is swappable - might give that a go before decommissioning the N4S for a while to swap with N4 Pro S.
