New BlackVue DR900X Plus Series 4K Dashcam Available Now

Good news for all of you waiting for a DR900S or DR900X upgrade: the DR900X Plus Series delivers even better image quality and introduces great new quality-of-life features.

Improved video quality

The DR900X Plus Series front camera produces crisper 4K videos than its predecessors. The difference is actually quite noticeable when looking at side-by-side footage. You can clearly see finer details from a longer distance.
The dual-channel model’s Full HD rear camera is also better than past models at capturing videos in low light and has better dynamic range overall. It is the same camera that equips the recently released DR750X Plus model, with the same newer Sony STARVIS™ sensor.
We shared some screenshots below to let you compare the image quality of the DR900X Plus with that of its predecessor the DR900X (keep in mind that those images are resized for the web. The original 4K UHD resolution is 3840×2160 pixels.

New Seamless Pairing for easier setup with the BlackVue App

Seamless Pairing is making its debut with the launch of the DR900X Plus Series. Seamless Pairing is a much simpler way to connect to your dash cam with the BlackVue App. Seamless Pairing lets you:
  • Connect directly to your dashcam from the BlackVue App. No more having to connect to the camera from your phone’s Wi-Fi menu first, including manually entering your dashcam’s Wi-Fi password.
  • Get notified of firmware updates and do a one-click FOTA (firmware over the air) upgrade. No more manually downloading the firmware to your phone (LTE) before connecting to your camera over Wi-Fi, then uploading the firmware to your camera.
  • Set up your dashcam for Cloud connectivity in a few simple steps. No more scanning QR codes to register your dashcam to the Cloud server over the internet, before connecting to the camera over Wi-Fi (losing your internet connection) to set up a Cloud connection method (SIM card or 3rd-party hotspot). Now just head to the “Connect to Cloud” menu, tap the “+” icon to add your dashcam and follow the instructions.
Check our post on Seamless Pairing for more info.

New Mobile Hotspot Function (with optional LTE Connectivity Module)

The BlackVue LTE Connectivity Module (CM100LTE) plugs into your BlackVue’s USB port and is powered by it. Combined with an active SIM card and data plan, it provides internet capability to your dashcam to connect to BlackVue Cloud.
With Mobile Hotspot Function, your BlackVue can now turn into a mobile internet router for up to five devices concurrently. This means you and your passengers can now use your BlackVue’s internet on your laptop, portable game console, tablet or mobile. To connect to the BlackVue, simply open your devices’ Wi-Fi menu, select the BlackVue and enter the dashcam’s Wi-Fi password.

Available now

DR900X Plus models are available now in the BlackVue Shop.

When will the rear cam be available for purchase for people who initially want the 1ch vers and how much will it cost?

And the obvious questions:

If we're upgrading from the 900X, are the hardwire and rear cam cables the same or do we have to rip all that out and replace with 900X Plus-specific stuff?

Is the CPL filter the same or new?

The real 4K video test will be against that of other manufacturers. So far, I am still unconvinced.

I currently have the DR750X Plus 2CH and just purchased the DR900X Plus front only direct from BlackVue. Since they both use the same rear camera, I will effectively have a DR900X Plus after replacing the front..

Also, love the new seamless connectivity and it's working great on the 750X Plus...

Hardwiring cable and coaxial cable are the same. CPL Filter is also the same.

My current DR900X-2CH isn't even 9 months old.

I don't suppose 10% off for current X-series cam owners would be a possibility?

I was able to find and use a 10% off code through Google.. That offset the DHL Express shipping charge and still gave me a slight discount on the actual price..

Mine should be here on Friday according to DHL...

I've been running a DR900X Plus for the past week or so and so far I'm really liking it as an upgrade to the DR900X.

As far as video quality is concerned, I am noticing an improvement with the Plus. For testing I've been driving around with the DR900X, DR900X Plus, and U1000.

Today I'm spending the day going back through sample footage to see the video quality differences. I've only looked through one test so far, but it does look like the DR900X Plus is bringing video quality closer to the U1000 which is what I was hoping for.

I've got a bunch more videos to go through, driving day and night.

In a couple weeks I'm gonna be heading to a local installer to do a bunch of upgrades to my car including running new power cables for the DR900S/DR750S now so I can upgrade to the X series. I was also wanting to run cables to install a U1000 next to the DR900X up front because I really really want better video quality than what the DR900X offers. If the DR900X Plus does indeed close the gap with the U1000 and it looks like it very well may, I won't bother running permanent cables for the Thinkware and I can keep my WS clear with more room to keep testing different dashcams.

The bluetooth pairing stuff with the 900X Plus is nice, making it easier to initially pair the dashcam with your phone without having to punch in your default wifi pw. Once you do create the initial pairing though one way or another, it's not a big difference.

I'm really liking the DR900X Plus / CM100LTE allowing for up to 5 devices connected instead of just one. I'm testing with the DR900X Plus serving as a hotspot for another dashcam, two phones, and a RD, and it works fine without issue. I do have to switch the DR900X Plus to 2.4 GHz because Escort's radar detectors only support 2.4 GHz for some dumb reason, haha. Either way, the connection is much more stable than the flaky OBD II hotspot I have hooked up to some battery packs that have been providing parking mode data for my dashcams. I don't like that the CM100LTE is one more thing to unplug every time I wanna pull the memory card out from my DR900X Plus, but I am seriously considering switching over the CM100LTE for in-car WiFi moving forward now that it supports multiple devices.

Anyways, just some initial thoughts. Back to looking through more sample footage.

I figured you would be the guy to tell what is up or down in regard to these new models.

In that example, sure, but you still see image quality differences nonetheless, yes? The DR900X seems to get a little mushier as plates start to get a little farther away. Thanks for mentioning that though so I have a better idea of what to point out once I'm ready to shoot the full comparison video. Here's another example that illustrates this a little more clearly.

Minivan and Silver SUV license plate comparison, DR900X Plus, DR900X, U1000.jpg

I'm definitely starting to pixel peep here, but looking at this example, all three dashcams do fine with the plate of the silver SUV on the right. The white minivan ahead of me is a bit farther away and the U1000 and DR900X Plus just baaaarely have enough resolution available to mostly make out the plate. The DR900X I think is too mushy. This frame is basically the closest that I got to that white minivan in traffic.

Oooh, looking around a bit more, look at the trees on the right and left edge of the frame. On the DR900X, all the detail gets lost as just dark shadows. On the DR900X Plus you can see individual leaves. That's impressive! The shadow detail is much better on the Plus too. The U1000 is somewhere between the two Blackvues.

That is mainly the effect of bitrate, the DR900X doesn't have enough, what are the bitrates being used?

Let's see... pulling up the info in VLC, they're all recorded at the same bitrate of 25 Mbps.

The DR900X and U1000 are both recording in h.265. The DR900X Plus has that option removed and only records in h.264.

Ohh, the DR900X Plus looks like it is doing very well for 25 Mbps, I guess you are probably not moving very fast then, what happens once you pick up speed, do the tree leaves blur on all three?

The U1000 still seems to have slightly the most readable plates, but maybe only because it has a narrower field of view than the DR900X Plus.

I would like to see the 750x+ in this comparison with 60FPS.

Yeah I was moving pretty slowly there. The light had just turned green as I was pulling up to the cars ahead of me and so traffic had just started moving again. According to the dashcam GPS, I was doing 9 mph.

Moving faster things do start to blur more.

Yeah dashcams with a tighter FOV do have a slight advantage when we start doing zoom-in shots like this.
