VIOFO A119S Modified Firmware MODs Archive

To me, it looks like it is simply skipping every 6th frame, so 4 frames are spaced 1/60 seconds apart and the fifth is spaced 1/30. Apparently, the sensor is scanning the image with 60fps and the processor is simply ignoring one in six.

I am also experimenting with changing resolutions in NtkMPE: strange things are happening if you change, for example, 1280/720 with 1920/1080. The image is zoomed in using the sensor's central 1280/720 pixels resulting in a smaller FOV (not necessarily a bad thing), BUT the image is encoded using 1920/1080 resolution (upsampled).

It's visible in both mine and Makatanav's.
To make it more visible I did the following:
I slowed down the video to 10fps and rendered it again to 50fps, for both mine and Makatanav's:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1emA6O3wWl2A38wTTG8QAxezKF8eanxEy/view?usp=sharing
the 1st 30 seconds are Makatanav's, the last 30 seconds are mine. The effect is best visible looking off center, you see it jump every half a second or so.
The EU video settings of 25 & 50fps will cause a stutter if viewer and hardware are configured for standard 30/60fps. Use Dash Cam Frame Rate that matches your viewing device. Try viewing both 25fps and 30fps on LCD SmartTV, then on computer or tablets, the smoothest video should be your default for Dashcam. There are regions that still use 25/50fps as standard video. I prefer 30fps for day & night in North America.

The frame skipping in 50 fps becomes more apparent when you analise video frame by frame: every 5th frame a bigger 'jump' in space is obvious.

@dacbuc can you read your Forum INBOX or click my Avatar and start conversation on this? template available.

v2.61 + 27Mbps + Sharp34 + Edge178 during a cloudy afternoon (ill use shorter clips next time).

The version i downloaded was the highlighted one on this screenshot before it was renamed to MOD-07, any graphical differences in them?:

missed your question, when the IQ values shown match newer version it should be same quality and either logo change or menu/version update.
thanks for your footage and support.

Great low light Sharpness comparison, request similar photos outside in parking lot.
From these photos alone Sharp 30 /High/Strong needs to increase to 35 or 40.

Here are two trips (3) videos the timing was off a touch). Using 6Nd 1080 30fps all default
Time of day was close. Sharpness 10 and then 20.

Sorry about the dirty windshield. Its harvest season right now. Tons of dust and bugs.

Thanks for renaming the MP4 files with full MOD settings makes tracking and comparing easier. I noticed something between this footage and earlier clips, read your Forum INBOX for details.
Sharpness range for v4.02 is narrowing possibly Sharp 15 / 30 / 45

MOD-6Nd - 1080p@60fps - WDR Off - EV 0 - Sharpness 10 (Low) - No CPL

My lens angle is down too low. I must've hit the lens at some point when I had the camera off of the mount.

2:45 PM - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1E8seuHgr9HcDQMCBdTTjbwDBfrPhPzNv
9:15 PM - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1NgQgwhmQEluod-N7VWS4SBw8GsFsmhdr

Should I be recording 30fps instead for comparison's sake?
Thanks for 6Nd v4.02 clips, for comparisons 30fps is enough, 60 is great but not required. Going to compare these clips to 2.61 clips notice center blurs off & on much more than ever noticed before. doesn't happen with v1.01
This center surging (auto adjust) effect isn't shown in all clips, its possible its from WDR-on. Can't isolate it from my end yet.

Everything's default, CPL, sharpness low 10
daytime, highway - https://drive.google.com/file/d/14TGNayf6_5_WnI2aF1MxQ2fLTedj0Sb3/view?usp=sharing
daytime, city - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JskDOju1weIcdBPpFkZ3DegElPAY7SKq/view?usp=sharing

will try 6Nd
Great 6Ne 50fps clips, very good center focus, no drift or random blur.
After changed to 6Nd angle DVR down one click then half up, need Sharp 20 & 30 footage.

For me soft10 is too soft, I think I'm gonna use 6Nc version with 20-40-60 sharpness again. Maybe others have sharper lenses and want to use lower values, but it's definitely not for me :)

Excellent 6Nd Sharp10/20/30 comparison, proof 10 is too low. As another DCTEAM member said, these lower sharpness levels may work well for perfectly focused or slightly over focused Lens, others will slightly out of focus Lens benefit using Higher sharpness levels. In an effort to select three useful levels all these tests suggest range = Low 13 / Med 23 / High 43. Very difficult to create one perfect Firmware version, that's where multiple MODs take over.
More comparisons needed, range suggestions needed by all for next MOD.

I prefer values around 40. Will compare some more road footage as well.

Excellent 6Nc Sharpness comparisons, for your Lens 20 is too soft but 40 and 60 show improvement. Need others to repeat this type of test. Now suggests Sharpness range 30/40/50 or 25/35/45.
As usual verify Lens & CPL & windshield are clean. Discovered my CPL had layer of grime from plastic dash off-gassing from last month very hot summer. Only way to clean off was bowel of water + 1 drop mild dish soap between fingers, gently rub both sides of CPL then rinse in water, dries fast, remember to mark alignment position before cleaning.

Thanks, I've cleaned my lens and CPL recently just to be clear it does not affect the picture quality. My windshield was cleaned as well on both sides, but it has some little marks caused by stones etc.
I think 30/40/50 would be ok for my lens/windshield combination.

When I finish work, will create MOD-6Nf Sharp 30/40/50 for Beta Testing. If anyone else wants to test slightly different levels let me know. I tend to add comments/suggests to everyone, the Lens cleaning was a general verification to all not your current excellent comparisons, well done.
