I was thinking about the settings changes I do each time after I install a new mod or firmware, and it's going like this:

1. Beep sound - startup only (I like when the cam reminds me it's alive each time I turn on the vehicle, but I hate the beeps when I press buttons, especially when I do the initial setup)
2. Set time-zone
3. Turn GPS on
4. Hide the GPS info
5. The rest depends on what I want to test, usually sharpness.
6. I used to modify the license plate number and car model, but got to lazy to do it each time.

Some people do even more changes, and everyone prefers the settings he likes, which other people don't like...

IMHO a really useful feature would be an option to have a settings file on the card, allowing auto restore settings from the file once a new mod\firmware installed\updated.
If a mod adds new features, they will not be registered in this file until first change, so they would appear as default values as defined in the mod.
This way, everyone will be satisfied by the update results, without a need to set all the settings from the scratch, or wish for changing default settings by VIOFO.
I understand that mods alone can't do such thing, but if VIOFO would consider it as a part of a future firmware it would be nice.

Great daytime highway 6Nx footage, thanks for sharing, Sharp60 looks good with Lens2.

We must collect some 6Vf normal + soft to compare against same test area using 6Nx normal + soft and decide which is best for Lens1 & 2. Parking lot test footage with sun behind is also useful.

MOD 6Nw-Vivid
1080p/30fps, WDR Off, EV 0, Strong sharpness

Finally, the sun came up.

I hope for tomorow to be able to do a side by side comparation between Nx and the new released firmware from Viofo.

Amazing clarity!!!

I wish we could get a bit of a sun in Toronto :(
Just got back from a vacation from Dominica, I wish I could bring my car there, 100% sun :)
Back to the Toronto clouds\rain\snow reality... Kind of depressing :)

Reduced soft Sharpness level from 6Nw so Lens2 owners don't get halo.

Going back a few pages and I am still impressed with the night footage I get from 6NV firmware and it is suppose to be even better on soft focus at night so still to try this.
Any footage of the original new firmware released by VIOFO?

Firmware: 6Nv- Normal Sharpness

As usual 1080p 60fps WDR=Off Ev=0 CPL=On.

Well, sun with teeths :) . -8 °C/ 17.6 °F. Good enough though. Better than nothing :) .
Dominica is a piece from heaven for vacation!

I'm ready for some testing and clips tomorrow.
Today we had much fog, no good conditions.
It will be daytime and mostly highway. What do you prefer for your development ?
Normal speed 80,100,130 km/h or high speed up to 240km/h

Very good assorted 6Nw footage, interesting your Lens2 is best using Soft sharpness, its almost too sharp even at lowest level. You should post a warning not to drink Beer while viewing "Night - Beached Whale" now I must clean my keyboard and monitor. That city still has the worst drivers in Canada. thanks for sharing the clear crisp cold clips, great stuff!

Created Vivid Saturation version of 6Nw for your testing.

Yeah, if I kept the sound on, you would have heard me bust out laughing as I passed that car.

The over sharpness was noticeable once you mentioned it. I was focusing more on the colouration. I did test the vivid 6Nwv but I forgot to copy the files I wanted over before installing and formatting with Alpha 6Nx. I did notice the colours were more to my liking, but it was showing the same Lens 2 oversharpening as 6Nw. The night video also, seemed to introduce clarity issues again, that sort of fuzzy/static over the whole picture, which made night video less clear in comparison to 6Nv and 6Nw (for Lens 1 cams). I think the sharpness mod you did for 6Nx would work well with the vivid saturation settings of 6Nwv.

Alpha 6Nx Videos:

The weather has been total crap lately. Snow, slush, muck, and no real sunlight. Got the best ones I could though. Day and night, and some crappy drivers. Seems getting cut off or almost cut off, continues to be the usual for me.

These are all done with my usual settings, soft sharpness, and Lens 2.

Daytime - Nasty Roads
Buildings and a lot of muck.

Daytime - Bridge, Cadillac
Lots of places to look for sharpness, looks good to me on my lens 2. Cadillac driver, not so much.

Sunset - Traffic, Jetta
Jetta not paying attention.

Night - Intersection
Night video is good. Clarity is much better than 6Nwv on my lens 2.

Finally the team effort makes real change in the production fw!!!

Change log:

  1. Updated: Update to latest SDK
  2. Added: Support .TS format
  3. Added: Sharpness and Bitrate option
  4. Improved: Improve the image quality.

Hey Viofo, you forgot to add contrast adjustments

VIOFO A119S Dashcam Official Firmware v4.03 released Nov.29 , 2018
Download >
https://support.viofo.com/support/s...00047224-viofo-a119s-car-dash-camera-firmware

Its the same as Beta v4.03 with improvements to Sharpness and IQ that actually look very good.
Everyone should install this Official FW and test out the High Bitrate and all 3 Sharpness levels.
Which Sharpness level looks best with your Dashcam?

Pros and Cons
Image Quality is the best so far from VIOFO, great improvement and on the way to perfect IQ.
Bitrate Menu Option is welcomed and useful to all owners, it adds 5Mbps to previous values.
Sharpness Menu Option finally available to owners wanting to reduce the over-sharpened IQ.
The Bitrate maximum is locked at 24.6Mbps, will take more effort to locate and unlock for higher modified values. DCTeam MODs are using v4.02 with maximum Bitrate 26Mbps.

Code:
            1080p Resolution
Bitrate 60fps 30fps
Normal 20Mbps 15Mbps
High 25Mbps 20Mbps

Thanks for the snow and slush 6Nx footage, your selection of Arlington Bridge for sharpness assessment is excellent. That Caddy cutting you off at Bridge entrance reminded me why I had to install dual horns in my Truck when in that City. This MOD works well on Soft level with your perfectly focused Lens2, the night clips look very good. This could be the new Stable version.

Load up the new VIOFO FW v4.03 and compare to these clips.
