I received the camera today! It failed in five minutes in the same way as my old one did in three hours and continued to fail every five minutes.
But I now need to apologize for the trouble I caused you all. And I should even be embarrassed!
It really was something in my environment!!
Now to explain . . .
When the new unit failed in five minutes twice in a row, I figured I had to have something wrong. So what I did, is took all the new stuff to my other home here in Cold Springs Valley (CSV). I was thinking interference. Perhaps from my own wireless, or because that Reno home is on the very top of a hilltop, outside interference.
This place here in CSV is down in a valley, 15 miles away, and the house has a room far from my wireless used here. So I set it all up there.
But it still failed! Your new cables. Your new SD card. Nothing from the old camera at all. Except the 13.8 VDC power supply I was using.
But I still didn't think it could be the unit. So then I decided to try a different power supply. Same voltage same current--different make. Older and even cheaper Radio Shack supply. I have that camera on that supply right now. It's been on for an hour, and still working perfectly. The five minute fails are gone!
It seems to be a rare coincidence that the ~2 mv high frequency noise ( within spec) just happens to be the frequency that can interfere with the oscillators in the module for the camera, especially when it even has to get through the supplied 5 VDC supply that comes with the camera. The 13.8 supply that I used which interfered with the cameras
is this one.
The power supply has much higher frequency noise than in a motorcycle ignition system, so this is perhaps no issue on most motorcycles.
I won't be able to send the unit back until Thursday. I have a long all day ride planned with a group in the morning. First to Gabbs, than to Hawthone then to wherever.
But, can I pay for the new unit instead of sending it back? I have another bike I would like to mount another on. I can pay right away. Please let me know.
