Hi folks

I've just signed up here as I've been reading through the forums for a few weeks now while figuring out what dash cam to go with.

Ended up getting a good price on a locally-stocked DR500GW and as I was playing with the settings (just got it today) I stumbled across this thread for custom firmware - I mean, I'd seen the thread just hadn't read any of it

I'm currently running firmware v1.005E (Default out-of-the-box).

What's the best way to go about getting the higher bitrate (~10Mbps) firmware on my cam?

you need to message Mio, he's the one that does the firmware for this model

Has Mio prepared the new one 1.005aE ? For english camera.

I have his 1.003aE in my english camera and I'm interrested if there is also this hacked 005?

So today my friend decided to help me out by updating mine and his firmware to the newest one. We both had the custom firmware and he decided to update it to the non-custom new one. I asked him why he would do that, and why he didn't do the updates one at a time. Now both our cameras dont work.

I'm trying to find the custom firmware and put that on the flashcard and see if it reverts back to the russian one.

Are these cameras bricked now or is there still a chance?

Also Mio can you send me the custom firmware with english language?

Quick question; Can you downgrade firmware on These? Ie go from 1.005 to 1.003 in order to use the hacked firmware?

I had the v1.0.3a installed on the cam. He upgraded it to 1.005. the LEDs turn on except the wifi one.

Can you send me your custom firmware as well with english voices.

we are now doing a transitional 1.0.3bE,
with it is possible upgrade to 1.005

I put the old firmware back on the flash card and inserted it in the camera. No response from the camera.

So is this camera garbage now?

is there anything else I can do?

Green LED does light at the back. Never used UART before or know what it is.

I ordered those, they should be here within two weeks. I'll need help with trying to restore the camera, if you're up for it Mio.

I also contacted my dealer to see if they would replace it.

I painted the lens shroud black, using a paint pen. Before it was too obvious from the outside that there is a camera behind the rear view mirror because of the silver shroud around the lens.

After painting it black the camera is almost undetectable, unless you specifically look for it. It blends in with the black rearview mirror.


So if the dealer wont accept the camera I'll have to fix it myself (hopefully with Mio's assistance)
