Viofo A119 Car DVR factory sample tests

How do you get rid of this reflection, would I be right in saying the dashcam is set to low.

Any new time lines? Want to jump into the Dashcam game, and I want the A119 to be my first one.

We are testing a new lens now, and prepare the pre-production for the GPS version, so I didn't post frequently these days.
Wish the new lens will be better than the old version.

Thanks for all the beta reviewers posting feedback.

@viofo We thank you for the opportunity to be a little part of the A119 development!

Yeah, definitely love testing out the product and helping the development :)

This is definitely a great little camera - I'm just going through almost 300GB of footage and finding it hard to fault so far in the latest firmware:

The only issue I have is more due to the style of my car which has a long sloping windscreen so suffers badly from reflections which affects cameras close to the glass more such as the A119, A118 or SG9665GC.

I've actually found the A119 works better without the dashmat installed but it still suffers from very strong reflections in sunlight - in winter these aren't an issue.

Are there any plans to make a polarized lens / CPL addition please as this would sort the majority of those issues?

I don't have an A119 myself but from the pictures I've seen you may be able to fashion a DIY version similar to what I did for the A118/SG9665GC, at least to tell if it would help. From pictures it's hard to tell how close to the windscreen/windshield the lens sits when installed so there may not be enough clearance in all cases.

not sure how it would work since the lens can pivot left and right. and the part that moves left/right doesn't stick out enough to really put anything on it.

if anything, it would have to be pre-calibrated (not sure how that'd work) and would have to be thin and have a ring of adhesive to let you stick it to the front of the lens. and thus wouldn't be removable at night.

any chance i could get the gps parts to add on to mine? was i right in guessing the connector uses the little ZIF socket here for teh 4-pin plate that will go on the back cover?

If they are going to change the lens, how hard would it be to swap out the current one?

Your picture is actually better than others I've seen for this purpose.

It looks like the front surface of the lens actually sits behind the housing. If that's the case it might be possible to use a small dab of latex based contact cement for adhesion instead of Velcro. It's not permanent and no fumes that might cause issues and would give a bit more clearance from the glass.

Regarding removing at night that would depend on the night performance of the camera. I have CPLs on both my front and rear SG9665GCs and leave them mounted 24/7. The rear camera suffers a bit because of the privacy glass but not enough that I feel it's worth the bother to remove the CPL. I've never even considered removing it from the front camera.

This shows how dark the privacy glass is:

In the same thread here are a couple video samples from the GC with the DIY filters (The material I used is probably 1 stop darker than the CPLs made for the camera that I currently use and as a result night performance is better than depicted in these samples.):

Even you add the GPS part, the GPS feature can not work very well, as the GPS module is so close the camera PCB board, so it affected the GPS signal much.
We did much effort to get it works.
