Alternatively it is available from GearBest for $95.99.
Is very possible soon to have more more featured cameras for the same price. Xiaomi comes with a cable, 3 buttons and basic functions.

I get vertigo just looking at those on top of things selfies

But i am not able to point fingers as i did a lot of stupid stuff myself when i was young  thank god small videocameras wasent around back then :D

Now that my C1 whent up in smoke i would love to try one too, but i have to turn every dime i have for the foreseeable future.

Bought one of these.. I hope it's compatible with GoPro accessories like gimbals and CPL filters. I'm going to try the firmware mod for increasing bitrate with the a7 toolkit.

What else do we have access to in the firmware toolkit? HDR? RAW photos?

You can change the bitrate, auto exposure tables and menu strings in AFT but you cannot change anything like HDR or raw or anything like that - for that sort of thing you would need to hack the firmware directly like some of the guys from Russia on here do and that takes a lot of time with the likes of IDA Pro.

There are some chinese pictures with a waterproof case, for example this

I see xiaomi will not make money from selling the camera but the accessories. The camera internals are high cost so their camera profit is very low. They just want to start a price war, no matter the costs.
Their Android application is called XXX Cam. And of course the icon application is containing a lot of red. Like porn.

Xiao Mi is selling the low price to creat brands, since Xiao Mi's apperance and destroy the normal market price,a lot of manufacturers are cancling the plan of producing action camera this year.
Xiao Mi sales method is different, chinese call it "hungry sales method",the lowest price models in offical website is always out of stock, the more expensive reseller price is often in stock, but price has nearly been doubled.

Here's a video review for this camera from Gizmochina

Looks good, mine arrives Monday, and I'm looking forward to testing it and comparing it to the SJ4000.

This is the first video that actually makes sense about the Xiaomi camera. Thanks for sharing it with us @runtohell121
I would agree that though many say this camera is cheap compared to GoPro, one thing to pay attention to is absolute lack of accessories in the box. Basically if you do not have some gadgets that can be used already you would have to buy it additionally.

With SJ4000 or any other we really got lots of stuff (some of them I actually use :p)
I do not see a point of having action cam without all those gadgets unless you are going to use it to film dogs, cats potatoes or holidays.

Honestly I am not that impressed with a video quality, but I am also aware that most of these reviewers do not give a damn to format video properly and to film something worth watching.
Even with all those "problems" that I already see even before opening a box, I am still looking forward on testing it.

Compared to many Chinese action cam brands, Xiaomi is much more serious company and I really hope they will have better customer support and at least product as advertised.

But what do you guys think about the video quality? At least from these videos? Perhaps the hype they created made me expect a bit more?

I don't think Xiaomi is marketing this camera to compete with the true action cam market. From what I have read it seems as if it is more marketed towards the Flip/pocket camera crowd rather than the extreme sports crowd. Video seems on par with the SJ4000 yet handles different lighting better. Monday I will attach it to my windshield and take some short clips, even without loop.

@GJHS I believe you are right. However, I am not sure if you noticed but they released bunch of paid (yes obviously they pay good amount of money to create hype, like anyone else) press release articles "GoPro Killer" "Cheaper-Better GoPro alternative" just makes no sense. Also they called their camera and Action Cam. On the other hand they have standard and travel edition which obviously tells us who is their target consumer. Regular people, travelers, etc.
I am looking forward to your shoots, and cant wait mine cam to arrive from China. Might take weeks. :(

Which Russian guys? Wouldn't mind having a chat

I decompiled the Android app, will see what commands it sends over wifi to the camera.

Looking at the specs sheet the A7LS board supports quite a few features but not sure which Xiaomi is using. It doesn't look like they have AV/HDMI out implemented which is a shame - but might be possible to solder a HDMI connector onto the A7LS

If you look in the Development forum you'll find them there - people like @Falsificator and @z768 know a lot about these cameras as well as @Tobi@s who writes AFT.

There's a lot of info on the Russian boards like taker.im where they dig into what these can do :)

Sadly when their margins are as thin as theirs something has to give and it is customer support. CS costs (unfortunately), and they make sometimes less than 1USD per product they sell which means they dont invest in their CS. A lot of Chinese people love the brand and will always recommend it but always follow it with the warning, 'just hope nothing goes wrong', because if it does, you are usually on your own.

On a side note: everyone has the obsession with getting everything the cheapest, but unfortunately the cheaper something is, usually something gives, and the easiest thing to cut is customer service. Just be aware that it is very hard to get an incredibly good product with amazing customer service for a dime and a nickle.

Kind regards,

My Yi camera is here and charging, I will post video later. The colors remind me of a 70's kitchen
